New at DHSS: Dr. Tillmann Ohm
We are delighted to share that Dr. Tillmann Ohm has joined the DHSS!
Tillmann is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Images and Objects group led by Prof. Mila Oiva. He holds a PhD in Information Society Technologies from Tallinn University, where he worked as a researcher at the Cultural Data Analytics Open Lab (CUDAN) under the supervision of Prof. Maximilian Schich.
In his dissertation, Designing Processes and Tools to Research Similarity Spaces of Visual Collections, Tillmann developed computational methods and interactive interfaces to explore large-scale visual media through patterns of resemblance. He applied this approach to diverse cultural heritage repositories, including museum collections and Soviet newsreels, and to the evaluation of similarity perception in machine vision models, providing insights that are essential for applying these technologies in the Digital Humanities.
Originally trained as an artist at Bauhaus University, Tillmann brings a creative and exploratory perspective to academic research. His research interest spans multidimensional vector embeddings, software development, and artistic practice, focusing on interdisciplinary approaches that expand methodological possibilities for studying visual collections.
