The Department of Digital Humanities and Social Studies would like to invite you to the following talk in our DH Colloquium:
Dominik Kremer: »Getting engaged: a call for „more than digitising“ Digital Humanities «
Abstract
When societies and communities are in need of transformation, digital solutions often claim to be the answer: smart cities, community platforms, sentiment data and more. However, a great deal of success in transforming societies still hinges on shared spaces for wellbeing and interaction, and real-world, face-to-face communication. In my talk, I reflect on my own use of digital tools and practices over the last ten years, considering whether they actually served their purpose. Consequently, I advocate for a more engaged approach to Digital Humanities and social studies, where future stakeholders are well-trained from the outset in not only designing and implementing digital methods, but also acquiring profound knowledge of communication, consultation, coaching, and staging community-oriented events and experiences, eventually hosting digital activities.
