The Department of Digital Humanities and Social Studies would like to invite you to the following talk in our DH Colloquium:
Janno Reincke: »Analysing Climate Emotions in Environmental Video Games«
Abstract:
What makes video games a promising medium for climate change communication? As multimodal narrative systems, video games can emotionally engage players by telling powerful stories about environmental issues and climate change. This MA thesis examines how the textual components of environmental games embed climate-related emotions such as anxiety, hope, or anger. Using LLMs for emotion classification, it explores how computational analysis can uncover the emotional dimensions of environmental stories in games, indicating their capacity to influence how players feel, think, and act on climate change.
